  1. To install the new retrofit high limit switch you will need the following tools: A Phillips head screwdriver, a 1/4" nut driver or socket (a flat blade screwdriver can also be used to remove the screws), a pair of gloves (rubber, latex or gardening gloves) and a pair of pliers. The part to be installed is shown in figure 1 below (three #8 hex head screws are included with this kit in case any are lost during the disassembly process):

  2. Turn off the power to the heater by flipping the circuit breaker to the off position before removing the cover.

  3. Remove the cabinet panels on the heater, follow steps 1 through 6. See figures 2,3 & 4 below.

    Heater cabinet panel removal.

STEP 1. Remove the flue outlet shield (Part 3) by unscrewing the two 1/4" he" hex head slotted sheet metal screws. See figure 2.

STEP 2. Remove the Cabinet vent trim (Part 1) by unscrewing the two º" hex head slotted sheet metal screws. See figure 3.

STEP 3. Unscrew the Fourteen 1/4" he" hex head slotted sheet metal screws (Part 2) securing the heater cabinet panel (Part 4).

STEP 4. Unscrew the three 1/4" hex head slotted sheet metal screws (Part 2) securing the lower front access panel (Part 6). Remove the panel by sliding it downward and away from the heater.

STEP 5. Unscrew the two 1/4" hex head slotted sheet metal screws (Part 2) securing the upper front access panel (Part 5).

STEP 6. Wearing gloves to prevent contact with fiberglass insulation lift the heater cabinet panel (Part 4) off the Seahorse water heater. The water heater will now look similar to the illustration shown in figure 5 below:

CAUTION: Failure to wear protective gloves may resultant in skin irritation caused by the fiberglass insulation.

  4. Position the retrofit high limit switch assembly in the center at the top of the back panel as shown in figure 6 below. Make sure the switch and the wiring are behind the insulation.

  5. Run the wiring behind the insulation to the existing high limit switch as shown in figure 7 below.

  6. Remove either of the red wire terminals from the high limit switch and connect it to the insulated blade terminal of the new high limit switch. Connect the female terminal of the new high limit switch to the terminal on the existing high limit switch. As shown in figure 8 below.
